A passenger bus belonging to “Rajdhani Paribahan”, parked on the roadside in the Kaliakair Truck Stand area of Gazipur, caught fire on Friday afternoon.
Fire Service personnel subsequently arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control.
The incident occurred at around 2:30pm on Friday at the Kaliakair Truck Stand area on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
According to eyewitnesses and the Fire Service, the bus had arrived in the Kaliakair Truck Stand area from Dhaka carrying passengers and was parked on the side of the road. Suddenly, smoke began to billow from inside the vehicle.
Local residents and drivers of other vehicles initially attempted to control the fire. Upon receiving the information, two units of the Kaliakair Fire Service rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control within a few minutes. However, the interior of the bus was completely gutted.
Director of Kaliakair Fire Service and Civil Defence Iftekhar Hossain Raihan Chowdhury said the fire is initially suspected to have been triggered by an electrical malfunction.
