Police recovered the bodies of five people, including two women, a college student and a rickshaw puller, from different parts of Barguna within a 24-hour period, officials said on Saturday.
The bodies were recovered from Barguna Sadar, Patharghata and Bamna upazilas between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Authorities have launched investigations into the incidents.
According to police, the hanging body of Kona Begum, 34, wife of Kislu Mia, was recovered from the Lemua area of Aylapatakata Union at around 7am on Saturday. A note found at the scene reportedly stated that she had taken her own life following her husband’s second marriage.
Later in the morning, at around 10am, police recovered the hanging body of 93-year-old Saleha Begum from her residence in the Noli area of Barguna Sadar.
In Bamna Upazila, the body of Abir Hossain Eshan, 17, a college student, was recovered from his uncle’s house in the Kolagachhia area at approximately 8:30am. Police said the teenager was found hanging and the circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation.
In a separate incident, the blood-stained body of Mizanur Rahman, 45, a rickshaw puller, was found in front of his residence on Imam Ali Road in Patharghata municipality at around 6:00am.
Family members said Mizanur, son of the late Safiz Uddin, had gone to bed after dinner on Friday night. Local residents later found his body lying beside the road and informed police.
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, police recovered the body of an alleged criminal known as Kalu, also identified as Ibrahim and Bosti Kalu, from the Patakata area of Barguna Sadar.
According to police and local sources, he died after being beaten by a crowd following an alleged attack on the panel chairman of Badarkhali Union.
Police said Kalu was accused in 14 cases filed in different parts of the country.
Barguna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Alim said legal procedures were underway in connection with the incidents.
Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque said Mizanur Rahman’s body had been sent to the morgue for a post-mortem examination after completion of the inquest report.
Bamna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faruk Hossain said a thorough investigation would be carried out to determine the causes and circumstances of the deaths.
