State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has announced plans to install solar power systems in government offices across 21 districts.
Speaking while virtually inaugurating rooftop solar installation at Zobaida Korim Jute Mills Limited in Faridpur, he said solar panels will be set up in the offices of Deputy Commissioners, Police Superintendents, and hospitals within two to three months.
He urged private companies to follow the government’s lead, noting that the Zobaida Korim Jute Mill project could serve as a model for others.
Power Secretary Minara Mahrukh and Additional Secretary and Chairman of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited Noor Ahmed attended the event. The State Minister also took part in a discussion with officials.
JA Solar International Ltd of China installed the rooftop system with a capacity of 4.29 MW. The project uses SMA Solar Technology AG panels (Model: STP-110-60) with net metering facilities.
The State Minister highlighted that the government has undertaken several initiatives to expand renewable energy and reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels.
