Seized evidence from 2,432 disposed cases stored in the godown of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court was destroyed on Saturday, following court directives.

The destruction drive was carried out at the court premises under the leadership of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana, the in-charge of the godown, according to court officials.

Among the destroyed evidence were various items seized in different criminal cases, including sticks, bamboo, hockey sticks, various brands of liquor, documents, and other types of evidence.

Nazir of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Abul Hasan Kanon said the evidence was destroyed according to rules after judicial proceedings were completed and court directives were received.

“As a result, the storage management of the godown will become more orderly, and it will be convenient to store new evidence,” he said.

Officials said initiatives to regularly review and dispose of evidence stored in the court godown through legal processes are ongoing.
