Taskin Ahmed will play for Jaffna Kings in the 2026 Lanka Premier League (LPL ) alongside Shakib Al Hasan after the franchise confirmed his signing on Friday.
Jaffna signed Shakib on a direct contract one day earlier. The franchise then added Taskin to strengthen their pace attack ahead of the new season.
LPL confirmed the move on its official Facebook page and praised Taskin’s speed and experience in pressure matches.
Taskin has become a regular face in overseas franchise cricket outside the Bangladesh Premier League. He has already featured in leagues in Zimbabwe and the UAE T10 competition. He also played one previous LPL season.
The fast bowler represented Colombo Strikers in the 2024 tournament and took four wickets in three matches with an economy rate of 10.27.
Taskin also carried strong form into the new deal. He played key roles in Bangladesh’s recent ODI series against Pakistan and New Zealand and contributed heavily during the Test series sweep against Pakistan.
He claimed five wickets in five ODIs this year at an economy rate of 5.28. He also took six wickets in the recent two-match Test series against Pakistan.
The LPL returns after a two-year gap. Jaffna Kings enter the tournament as defending champions after winning the last edition in 2024.
The competition will start on 17 July with five teams. Colombo Caps, Kandy Royals, Jaffna Kings, Dambulla Sixers and Galle Gallants will compete in the tournament. The final will take place on 8 March.
