Bashundhara Kings produced a dominant performance to thrash Dhaka Wanderers 7-0, while Fortis FC continued their impressive scoring form with a 6-0 victory over Brothers Union in the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) on Friday.
City Club also enjoyed a successful outing, beating Chattogram City FC 2-1 in the day’s other match.
At the Bashundhara Kings Arena, Mohammad Sabbir Hossen scored three goals and Rakib Hossain struck twice as the Kings recorded their biggest victory of the league campaign so far.
The result came just three days after Bashundhara had beaten the same opponents 5-0 in the Federation Cup.
The Kings needed only 24 seconds to take the lead through Nepalese forward Manish Dangi, who finished off a move involving Brazilian winger Robson Robinho.
Sabbir doubled the advantage in the fifth minute after Yousuf Ali’s free kick created an opportunity inside the box.
Bashundhara continued to dominate possession and created several chances, but Dhaka Wanderers managed to keep the score at 2-0 for much of the first half.
The visitors suffered another setback in first-half stoppage time when goalkeeper Jasim Uddin received a red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area.
Playing against 10 men, Bashundhara increased their lead in the 49th minute when Sabbir scored his second goal.
Rakib then converted a penalty in the 69th minute to make it 4-0.
Mohammed Abdullah added the fifth goal in the 80th minute before Rakib completed his brace in the 89th.
Sabbir completed his three-goal performance in the first minute of stoppage time to seal the 7-0 victory.
Robson played an important role in several of the attacking moves as Bashundhara maintained their control throughout the match.
Fortis hit six past Brothers Union
Fortis FC continued their strong start to the season with a 6-0 victory over Brothers Union at the Gopalganj District Stadium.
Despite a goalless first half, Fortis completely dominated the second period and scored six unanswered goals. Mohammad Ibrahim broke the deadlock in the 56th minute before Insan Hossain doubled the lead in the 67th.
Gambian forward Pa Babou then scored twice in quick succession, finding the net in the 75th and 81st minutes.
Nigerian striker Stephen Chukwude made it 5-0 in the 83rd minute before Rafayel Tudu completed the scoring three minutes into stoppage time.
It was Fortis’ second consecutive six-goal victory in the league after they had beaten Chattogram City FC 6-0 in their previous match. Fortis began their campaign with a 3-3 draw against City Club and have since scored 12 goals in two matches.
Brothers Union, meanwhile, remained without a win after drawing 1-1 against PWD and losing 3-0 to City Club in their previous two matches.
