Two brothers allegedly linked to the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) have been arrested during a special raid at a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
Members of the 14 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) seized arms and ammunition during the operation.
The raid was conducted between 3am and 4:30am on early Monday at Block C-5 of Camp-2 West, under the jurisdiction of Balurmath Police Camp in Ukhiya.
The arrestees were identified as Md Faisal, 21, and his elder brother Rabiul Alam, 23, sons of Syed Hossain and residents of the block. According to police, Faisal is known as a custodian for ARSA in the area.
Acting on intelligence information, a special police team searched the brothers’ shelter and recovered two locally made single-barrel guns, four rounds of bullets and two cartridges.
The brothers were detained and taken into custody along with the seized weapons and ammunition.
14 APBn Commander Mohammad Siraj Amin confirmed the arrests, adding that legal proceedings against the suspects were under way.
