Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Tuesday warned that no member of the Bangladesh Police would be spared if found involved in drug abuse or narcotics-related activities.
Speaking at the third day of the Police Week programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital, the police chief described drug abuse as a major threat to the country’s youth and future generations.
“Bangladesh Police is working with utmost sincerity and professionalism to tackle the drug menace. If allegations of drug use or involvement in narcotics activities against any police member are proven true, no leniency will be shown,” the IGP said.
He added that several police personnel previously found involved in drug trafficking had already been brought under legal proceedings.
Addressing police officials and members attending the event, the IGP said awards and recognitions are not merely symbols of achievement but also reflections of responsibility, professional excellence and leadership.
“I believe such recognition will inspire members of the force to become more responsible and committed to their duties. Those receiving honours today must continue to perform their responsibilities with honesty and professionalism and set examples for others,” he said.
Responding to questions regarding police medals, the IGP said there was no controversy surrounding the awards process. He noted that scrutiny was currently underway and the medals would be distributed after completion of the process.
