A woman and a child were killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka–Barishal highway around 12:20pm in Uzirpur upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Roksana Yasmin, 63, and Arfa, 7. Arfa was returning home from school at the time of the incident. The incident took place near Joyshree bus stand area.
Witnesses and police said a bus of Hanif Enterprise, travelling from Dhaka to Barishal, ran over them while they were crossing the road.
They were critically injured and taken to Uzirpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
Uzirpur Model Police Station OC Rakibul Islam said police, along with highway police reached the spot after the incident.
He added that traffic on the highway has returned to normal and that an investigation is underway with legal action in process.
