Nearly 4,000 members of Warriors of July, an organisation comprised of participants from the July mass uprising, are set to join the National Citizen Party (NCP). Central leaders from both the NCP and Warriors of July have confirmed the move.
A formal joining ceremony is scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon, at the NCP office, where the leadership of Warriors of July will officially register their names with the party.
In preparation for the event, Warriors of July leaders held a meeting with the NCP spokesperson, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Warriors of July President Md Salman Hossain, General Secretary Hasibul Hasan Jisan, Vice-President Md Atiqul Islam Gazi, Organising Secretary Md Mustaim Billah Habibi, Treasurer Md Golam Azom, Programme Formulation and Implementation Secretary Md Mortuza, and Joint General Secretary Md Zakir Shikdar.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, President Md Salman Hossain said the organisation’s members and leaders collectively decided to join the NCP in light of the current political context.
He noted that for a year and a half, their small organisation had been struggling to implement the July Charter and the aspirations of the July mass uprising. However, he remarked that the current government’s attitude has prevented their small group from achieving significant results.
He described the move as a “historic initiative” aimed at transforming their struggle for referendums and the July Charter into reality. Vice-President Md Atiqul Islam Gazi described Warriors of July as the largest organisation of its kind with a nationwide presence.
Gazi expressed that the current government’s reluctance to implement the reforms for which they risked their lives on the streets is now evident to everyone. He stated that joining the NCP, which he called the “vanguard of July,” is the only way to keep the hope for reform alive, and he urged the public to join the cause.
NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain welcomed the development, stating that it is highly positive that a significant portion of July’s fighters are joining NCP politics.
He added that people from all walks of life and varying ideologies are choosing the NCP to pursue politics in the national interest.
Asif Mahmud added that the party would focus on gaining further organisational strength and would continue to practice politics dedicated to solving the problems of the people.
