The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the police has issued a warning over potential attacks on key installations in Dhaka and elsewhere.
“We have received the information and are analysing it. There is no reason to panic. We are working and will be able to deal this, Inshallah,” CTTC Joint Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin said at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday.
He said the police have received a warning issued by Police Headquarters over possible attacks on key installations in Dhaka and other parts of the country, and the CTTC cyber intelligence team is working on the matter.
Police Headquarters issued the alert on Friday night over concerns that members of a banned extremist group could target important installations, including the National Parliament. Instructions to strengthen security were sent to various unit heads on Thursday.
Although no specific organisation was named in the alert, it mentioned the recent arrest of a suspected militant identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Sami, also known as Abu Bakkar and Abu Mohammad.
According to the message, information was found indicating that the arrested individual had regular contact with two dismissed members of the armed forces.
Responding to queries about enhanced security measures, the CTTC official said such steps are part of internal security planning and cannot be disclosed publicly.
“We are taking action at the relevant locations based on the information received,” he said.
When asked how many members of the armed forces had been arrested so far, he said he did not have specific information and had only seen reports in the media.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner Harun Or Rashid also confirmed receiving the warning from Police Headquarters.
He said the DMP protection division is responsible for ensuring security at key installations, while other units provide support as required.
“Security arrangements at important establishments are maintained regularly,” he said.
