Former Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was released from Kashimpur Central Prison on Sunday evening after being granted bail in an attempted murder case.

She was released from the prison in Gazipur at 6:30pm on Sunday. Following her release, she immediately departed for Dhaka and refrained from speaking to the media.

Earlier that day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the bail order following a hearing in a case filed with Lalbagh Police Station. State lawyer Omar Faruq Faruqi confirmed the court’s decision to the TIMES of Bangladesh.

Chaudhury is an accused in a case involving the attempted murder of Ashraful during the July movement.

Previously, on Tuesday, the court had rejected a remand application for Chaudhury in connection with the case and ordered her to be sent to prison.
