A seven-month-old infant has died in Sylhet while undergoing treatment with measles-like symptoms, according to health officials.

The child died on Friday around 12:30pm at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while receiving care. The information was confirmed in a 24-hour health bulletin issued on Saturday morning by the office of the Divisional Director (Health), Sylhet.

With the latest death, at least three children under one year of age have died this month in the Sylhet division showing symptoms consistent with measles.

Health authorities also reported that one new measles case was detected in the past 24 hours. The deceased infant, identified as Bishwajit, was from Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet.

According to the latest surveillance report, a total of 41 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles and rubella have been recorded in Sylhet division since 1 January, 2026.

Of these, Habiganj reported seven cases (including two rubella infections), Moulvibazar 13, Sunamganj 11, and Sylhet district 10. In the last 24 hours, 19 new suspected patients were admitted to hospitals across the division.
Of them, 13 were admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet, five to Moulvibazar District Hospital, and one to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital.

Health officials further stated that a total of 101 suspected patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals across the division.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as concern grows over the rising number of suspected and confirmed measles cases in the region.
