At least 30 shanties were gutted after a fire that broke out at a slum in Diabari, Uttara of the capital on Thursday evening.
According to the Fire Service control room, the blaze was brought under control at around 7:13 pm, after being reported at around 6:26 pm.
Firefighters reached the scene at approximately 6:40pm and immediately began efforts to extinguish the fire.
A total of five firefighting units-two from Uttara Fire Station and three from Tongi Fire Station-were deployed to extinguish the blaze in the area.
Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told TIMES of Bangladesh that the blaze has been brought under control and fire-dumping operations are currently underway. No casualties have been reported so far, he added.
The Fire Service confirmed that the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit, burning an estimated 30 small houses. The extent of damage could not be immediately determined.
