The anniversary of the national English daily newspaper, the Times of Bangladesh, has been celebrated in Kushtia with colourful arrangements, including a discussion meeting, a prayer session, and a cake-cutting ceremony.
The programme, organised on Wednesday afternoon at the Meherjan Restaurant in Kushtia town, was presided over by Nabbir Al Nafiz, the Kushtia district representative of the newspaper.
Zila Parishad (District Council) Administrator and former member of parliament Sohrab Uddin attended as the chief guest, while the Times of Bangladesh Advisory Editor Elias Khan was the key speaker.
Addressing the event, chief guest Sohrab Uddin said, “The anniversary of a media house is not just a matter of celebration; it is also a day to evaluate professional responsibilities and roles. It is expected that the Times will win the trust of readers by highlighting objective news and people’s problems.”
Key speaker Elias Khan remarked, “The core strength of the media is the trust of its readers. Verifying information impartially and presenting the views of all parties is true professionalism. In this era of technological changes, the Times will remain uncompromising in information-based journalism.”
The event was also addressed by special guests, including the newspaper’s Managing Editor Nahid Hossain, Kushtia Union of Journalists President and BSS District Representative Abdur Razzak Bachchu, former general secretary of the Kushtia Press Club and Jugantor District Representative Abu Moni Jubayed Ripon, Kushtia Government College Associate Professor Rowshan Ali, and eminent educationist Iftikhar Firoz.
SM Mahfuz ur Rahman, office secretary of the Kushtia Union of Journalists and district representative of Asia Post, hosted the event, while Kazi Saiful, district representative of GTV and Agamir Somoy, directed the proceedings.
Other attendees included Anis Mondal, correspondent of The Daily Star; Nur Alam Dulal, representative of Bhorer Dak; Hasnat Rabbu, representative of Bhorer Akash; Rabiul Alam Ivan, representative of Dhaka Post; Shahriar Imon Rubel, acting editor of Weekly Pothikrit; and Mirajul Islam, district representative of G Live.
The Times’ Islamic University Representative Proggya Sarbojoya and Mirpur Upazila Representative Ahsan Habib were also present.
Following the discussion phase, the programme concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and a special prayer session (doa mahfil) wishing for the success of the newspaper and the welfare of the country.
