BNP Standing Committee member and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mirza Abbas returned home on Wednesday night after receiving treatment in Singapore and Malaysia for more than five months.
A flight carrying the veteran BNP leader landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 9:30pm, BNP Media Cell confirmed.
A large number of BNP leaders and activists gathered at the airport to welcome him home, reports BSS.
According to party sources, Mirza Abbas returned home following the advice of the medical board formed to oversee his treatment.
On March 11, Mirza Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while drinking water during Iftar. As his condition failed to improve, doctors admitted him to Evercare Hospital in the capital later that night.
His condition deteriorated, prompting authorities to fly him to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 March. After receiving treatment there, doctors later transferred him to Malaysia for advanced medical care.
Following more than five months of treatment in the two countries, Mirza Abbas returned home on the advice of his doctors.
His return after the prolonged treatment generated enthusiasm among BNP leaders and activists, as party supporters gathered in large numbers to receive him, giving the airport area a festive atmosphere.
