The recognition confirms the Bangladesh Football Federation’s steady climb in structure, planning, and youth development. It also marks a clear step forward from their previous Bronze status.
The AFC launched the Grassroots Charter in 2017 as a blueprint to standardise and elevate football development across Asia. It does not hand out badges for participation; it demands evidence. Associations must prove they can build systems, not just host events.
Silver status tells a specific story. Bangladesh now operates beyond basic participation drives and moves into sustainability, structured pathways, and improved coaching education. That shift matters because grassroots football only thrives when systems outlast short-term projects.
The March 12-14 visit carried real weight. AFC officials did not just sit in meeting rooms; they went on the ground, observed training environments, and evaluated whether programmes actually functioned. Visits to places like Shamsul Huda Football Academy offered a live audit of how theory translates into practice.
The Charter itself measures progress across 20 performance categories. These range from leadership planning and staffing structures to player programmes, social responsibility, and women’s football initiatives. In simple terms, the AFC checks whether a federation runs football like a system or like a series of disconnected events.
Bangladesh first entered the framework with Bronze membership on January 31, 2021. That level focused on laying foundations, building access, and getting more people playing the game. The jump to Silver shows the federation has started to organise that base into something more structured and sustainable.
Recent momentum backs that up. The country collected the AFC President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Bronze) in October 2025 after increasing events and participation significantly. That growth now feeds into a more refined structure, which the AFC has formally acknowledged.
