Netflix will explore the life and legacy of Friends star Matthew Perry in The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part documentary directed by Mary Robertson, known for Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is the “first in-depth, definitive documentary” about Perry. The series will feature his sister Mia Perry Bowick and lifelong friends, tracing his rise from comedy star to beloved Chandler Bing while examining his private struggles.
It will also include unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family archive. Bowick says the documentary aims to present Perry as a whole person, beyond Chandler and his addiction struggles.
Robertson, Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman executive produce. Lora Moftah co-executive produces, while Jessica Call serves as producer. Robertson called Perry “one of the comedic geniuses of our time” and said the public knew only part of his story.
Perry died in 2023 at 54 from the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning also contributing to his death. The series premieres on Netflix on 27 October.
