With thousands of folk song covers attracting millions of views online, singer Rakib Hasan is building a name for himself in Bangladesh’s music scene. Hailing from Vengula village in Gopalpur, Tangail, he is carving out his identity as a folk artist while preparing to release new original songs.
Rakib’s love for music began in childhood. After completing his SSC at Syedpur High School in Gopalpur, he enrolled at Madhupur Shahid Smriti School and College, where he regularly performed in music competitions. He later graduated and completed his master’s degree in physics at Ananda Mohan College in Mymensingh.
He has released around nine or 10 original songs, including ‘Bhalobashar Shima Nai’, ‘Lal Tukutuk Sona’ and ‘Mayar Pakhi’. Among these, ‘Bhalobashar Shima Nai’ has attracted the most views.
Rakib has also built a substantial online following through folk song covers. His YouTube channel, ‘Rakib’, features around 1,400 covers, while two other channels collectively host nearly 3,000.
Among his most popular performances are ‘Jiboner Oi Pare Jodi Arek Jonmo Thake’, ‘Bhule Jabo Amio Bhebechi’, ‘Amay Duniya Theke Churi Kore’ and ‘Janina Se Kokhon Eshe’. Each has garnered several million views.
Two new original songs written and composed by Lutfor Hasan are scheduled for release soon. One will appear on Dhruba Music Station, while the other, titled ‘Mon Diyache Kare’, will be released on Rakib’s own YouTube channel.
Rakib says Lutfor Hasan is the artist he listens to most, while he is also a devoted fan of Pritom Hasan. Over the past few years, he has performed alongside several singers, including Laboni, Ayesha Jebin Dipa, Mahua Mona and Rabeya Setu, at different events and on various platforms.
Despite his growing musical career, Rakib has other ambitions. Having completed degrees in physics, he hopes to establish a business while continuing to pursue music throughout his life.
“I want to create good original songs that will keep my name alive. I am primarily a folk singer, and I want to introduce folk music to younger listeners, using fusion elements when necessary so they can connect with the songs,” he said.
Born on 20 November 1998, Rakib is the son of Md Majnu Mia and Asma Begum. As he continues to develop his career, he hopes to bring traditional folk music to a new generation of listeners.
