Two acclaimed Bangladeshi productions, Ashfaque Nipun’s Mohanagar and Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s Bohemian Ghora, are set to reach a wider Indian audience through Netflix’s new partnership with Bengali streaming platform Hoichoi.
The agreement will bring all Hoichoi series premiering over the next two years to Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, exclusively on the streaming service. The collaboration, announced on 22 October, aims to introduce Bengali stories to audiences across India through multilingual releases, new adaptations and original productions.
Netflix’s initial Hoichoi collection includes 14 titles. Alongside Mohanagar and Bohemian Ghora, also known as Shaadi Ka Siyappa, the line-up features Madam Inspector, Sampurna, Lajja, Eken Sirji, Anjaan Saaye, The Curse of Parnashavari, Bloodlines, The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga, Raat Abhi Baaki Hain, Achinta: Trial By Law, Queens and Parineeta: A Love Story.
The deal also covers upcoming Hoichoi releases. New series will premiere on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu alongside their Bengali debuts on Hoichoi.
Leading the upcoming slate is The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, a folklore-inspired horror series starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam. The series is scheduled to premiere on 6 November, with more releases expected in the following months.
Beyond licensing existing and upcoming titles, the two platforms will collaborate on original series produced by Hoichoi Studios. The projects will reimagine selected Hoichoi stories through new adaptations, bringing fresh creative voices and perspectives to the narratives. The companies have yet to announce further details.
The partnership marks a new distribution route for Hoichoi’s Bengali storytelling, bringing established favourites and future releases to viewers who watch content in other Indian languages.
