Former Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak is set to begin a new chapter in coaching after taking charge of Rajshahi Division for the upcoming National Cricket League.
Razzak, 44, completed his Level 3 coaching course earlier this year before joining the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s High-Performance Unit as a spin-bowling coach. The Rajshahi appointment will give him his first head coaching role in the NCL.
The former left-arm spinner retired from all forms of cricket in 2021 before joining the national selection committee. He spent more than four years on the panel before moving into the BCB’s boardroom.
Razzak joined the BCB board after last year’s election and initially served as chairman of the women’s cricket department before taking charge of the High-Performance department. His time as a director ended after the board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul dissolved.
Razzak had already started moving towards coaching after completing his Level 3 qualification. Several teams in the Dhaka Premier League held preliminary discussions with him, but Rajshahi will now provide his first major coaching assignment.
Former cricketer Nazim Uddin will coach Chattogram Division, while Tushar Imran and Rajin Saleh will continue with Khulna and Sylhet respectively.
Mizanur Rahman Babul will remain Dhaka’s head coach. Saiful Islam will continue with Mymensingh after guiding Rangpur to the NCL four-day and T20 titles.
Abdul Karim Jewel will coach Barishal, while Nazmul Hossain will lead Rangpur.
