The race for Eid-ul-Azha releases is gathering pace, with at least 10 Bangladeshi films currently eyeing the festive window next month. The crowded slate includes ‘Rockstar’, ‘Malik’, ‘Masud Rana’, ‘Biday’, ‘Pinik’, ‘Hangor’, ‘Durbar’, ‘Officer’, ‘Tosnos’ and ‘Shironam’.
Despite the underwhelming performance of ‘Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka’ this Eid, director Azman Russo is pinning hopes on Rockstar, starring Shakib Khan as a music icon, alongside Tangia Zaman Methila and Sabila Nur. The film also marks musician Pantho Kanai’s acting debut.
Saif Chandan’s Malik, featuring Arifin Shuvoo and Bidya Sinha Mim, faces production delays due to financial setbacks, though the director remains optimistic about completing the remaining shoot in time.
Meanwhile, Masud Rana, based on Kazi Anwar Hossain’s iconic spy character, is set to bring Russell Rana and Puja Cherry together under Saikat Nasir’s direction.
Mehedi Hasan Hridoy’s Biday is nearing completion, continuing his collaboration with Real Energy Production. Other contenders include Zahid Jewel’s long-delayed Pinik, the coastal drama Hangor and the thriller Durbar, which marks Apu Biswas’s return to cinemas after two years.
Several completed or delayed projects are also targeting the slot, including Officer, Tosnos and Shironam, raising concerns within the industry.
Bangladesh Film Exhibitors Association president Awlad Hossain Ujjal has warned that such a crowded release schedule could hurt the market.
With only around 150 to 160 cinema halls nationwide, he noted that many films may struggle to secure proper screenings, making it harder for producers to recover their investments.
