The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has appointed Adviser Mahdi Amin and Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh Shibli as spokespersons.
According to a notification issued by the PMO on Sunday, these appointments were made in accordance with Rule 28(4) of the Rules of Business, 1996.
Under this mandate, Mahdi Amin and Saleh Shibli will be responsible for the dissemination and provision of official information related to the Prime Minister’s Office to the press, media, and other platforms.
Mahdi Amin, who holds the rank of state minister, is currently an adviser in charge of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
He previously served as a spokesperson and played a significant role in the BNP’s central election steering committee ahead of the 13th National Parliament election. During that period, he regularly articulated the party’s positions from the Gulshan electoral office.
Amin has contributed to policy formulation and inclusive development based on the “31-point” state reform agenda, with a focus on education, training, employment, and the empowerment of youth and women.
In 2014, he was appointed as an adviser to the then BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. By 2024, he became a member of the BNP’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee and handled various critical responsibilities prior to Tarique Rahman’s return to the country.
Amin, who is also involved in South Asian socio-economic development policies, has a long history of working with the current prime minister.
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli brings extensive experience from the media sector, having worked for the news agency UNB, the Daily Manab Zamin, Banglabazar Patrika, and Channel i.
His leadership roles include serving as the General Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in 2004 and the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association in 1994.
Shibli previously served as the press secretary to Tarique Rahman during his tenure as the acting chairman of BNP. He also held the diplomatic post of first secretary (press) at the Kolkata Deputy High Commission during the term of the four-party alliance government.
For several decades, he has worked closely with the incumbent Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
