Detectives have arrested eight members of an inter-district robbery gang and recovered looted goods in connection with two daring robberies at industrial establishments in Manikganj.

Additional Superintendent of Police Moharam Ali confirmed the arrests at a press briefing held at the superintendent of police’s office on Friday afternoon.

He said police conducted drives from Thursday to early Friday using information technology and leads from the detainees.

Officers arrested them from Manikganj Sadar, Ashulia in Dhaka, and Kashimpur in Gazipur.

Police sources said a gang of robbers attacked Astia Paper and Board Mill in Shibalaya upazila on the night of 20 March. They also struck Advance Attire Limited factory in the Pukhuria area of Ghior in the early hours of 23 March.

A group of 20 to 25 armed robbers used local weapons to take security guards hostage.

They tied their hands and feet, assaulted them, and locked them inside the machine room.

The gang then cut the power supply and looted valuable machinery parts, copper wires, computers, DVRs and cash.

During subsequent drives, detectives recovered a large quantity of copper, electrical equipment and tools used in the robberies.

Police said operations are ongoing to arrest other members involved in the incidents.
