Bangladesh’s Abdur Rahman Alif etched his name into the record books on Friday by winning gold in the men’s recurve individual event at the Asia Cup Stage-2, held in Singapore.
In a tense and hard-fought final, Alif overcame Japan’s Miyata Gakuto 6-4 in set points, sealing his first-ever international individual medal and a historic moment for Bangladeshi archery.
The former national champion got off to a flying start, winning the opening two sets 28-27 and 29-28 to establish a 4-0 lead. But Gakuto mounted a spirited comeback, taking the next two sets 28-27 and 27-26 to level the match at 4-4.
With the gold medal on the line, Alif held his composure in the decisive fifth set, delivering a superb 29-26 finish to clinch the title.
The victory marks a significant milestone for Alif and for Bangladesh’s presence in international archery, as the young archer demonstrated both skill and mental fortitude on his way to the top of the podium.
