At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups over dominance in Narail’s Lohagara Upazila on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 9:30am in the Banka village area under Lakshmipasha Union of the upazila.
Relatives of the injured and police said a long-standing dispute over dominance and previous enmity had existed between a group led by Lakshmipasha Union Ward No 1 member Jiru Kazi and another group led by Aktar Hossain from the same village.
The conflict escalated again on Friday afternoon over the alleged theft of a shallow machine pump.
Following the incident, members of the two groups engaged in a clash around 9:30am on Saturday using locally made weapons including shields, spears, machetes, bricks and sticks.
Union Parishad member Jiru Kazi and at least 14 others, including two women, were injured in the clash.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex.
Several of the injured were later transferred to Narail District Hospital and Khulna Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rahman said additional police have been deployed in the area.
Police are trying to arrest those involved in the clash, he added.
