Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) organised a daylong teacher training on rubric-based evaluation and transparent grading systems at the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) seminar room on Tuesday.
The initiative aimed to enhance fairness, accountability, and quality in student assessment through a clear, standards-based, and student-centered evaluation approach, according to a press release.
Lecturers and assistant professors actively participated in the workshop, which focused on designing effective rubrics, defining performance criteria, setting grading scales, and applying these systems in classroom practice.
The sessions emphasised how well-structured rubrics can make grading more transparent and reliable.
Vice-Chancellor Prof GKM Mustafizur Rahman inaugurated the programme as chief guest, noting that GAU’s modern grading system, combined with the day’s training, would ensure fair and consistent evaluation for all students.
He also highlighted that faculty responsibilities extend beyond classroom teaching and urged lecturers to pursue excellence in both teaching and research.
The programme was chaired by IQAC Director Prof Nasrin Akter Ivy, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof M Moynul Haque and Treasurer Prof Md Safiul Islam Afrad attending as special guests. Sessions were conducted by Prof Shaikh Shamim Hasan, Prof Md Motaher Hossain, Prof Nasrin Akter Ivy, and Treasurer Prof Md Safiul Islam Afrad.
The training concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to share insights, experiences, and best practices for implementing rubric-based grading effectively.
