The Sundance Film Festival has announced that its 2027 edition will take place from January 21 to 31, marking the festival’s first edition in Boulder, Colorado, after decades in Park City, Utah. Programming details will be revealed closer to the festival’s opening.
Eugene Hernandez, director of the festival, said, “The 2027 Sundance Film Festival will make an exciting debut in Boulder. The city’s venues and CU Boulder campus are ideal for bringing audiences together to enjoy art, spark conversation and create lasting memories,” Furthermore, he emphasised Boulder’s vibrant arts, tech scene and university community. More details will be shared in the coming months.
The Sundance Institute, which hosts the annual festival, also confirmed that screenings will take place at a variety of venues, including high school auditoriums, University of Colorado Boulder concert halls and local cinemas.
Park City hosted its final edition earlier this year, featuring premieres such as Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan’s drama Josephine, Olivia Wilde’s ensemble comedy The Invite, and the Charli XCX mockumentary The Moment.
Since its founding in 1985, Sundance has served as a launchpad for independent cinema classics including ‘Reservoir Dogs’, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, ‘Sex, ‘Lies and Videotape’ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine’.
