A Presiding Officer at a polling centre in Chuadanga-1 was withdrawn on Thursday morning following allegations of partiality during the parliamentary election.
The decision came after the BNP raised concerns over the officer’s perceived support for a Jamaat candidate.
The officer, Raihan Uddin, had been in charge of the Kalidaspur Government Primary School centre in Alamdanga upazila.
He was replaced by Faruk Hossain, a lecturer at Alamdanga Government College, to ensure smooth polling.
Reports indicate that complaints of biased conduct surfaced at the centre early Thursday.
The district returning officer acted immediately, withdrawing Raihan Uddin and appointing a new officer to maintain election integrity.
Alamdanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Panna Akter confirmed the change.
“The presiding officer was withdrawn based on complaints received by the Election Commission. With the new officer in place, polling is proceeding normally,” she said.
The prompt action aims to uphold transparency and voter confidence at the centre.
