Jamaat-e-Islami has lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday, regarding 32 “vulnerable” polling stations in Habiganj-3 constituency, while an arson attempt was reported at a polling centre in Baniachong upazila.

Mohammad Harun, the election agent for the party’s candidate Kazi Mohsin Ahmed, submitted the complaint to the Habiganj district returning officer and deputy commissioner (DC).

The party specified 32 centres where they anticipate potential disturbances on election day, urging the authorities to take legal measures to ensure a fair voting process.

In response, District Returning Officer and DC Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin stated that vulnerable centres had already been identified by the administration. However, he assured that additional security would be deployed to the locations mentioned in the complaint.

In a separate incident during the early hours of Wednesday, miscreants attempted to set fire to a room at the Sunaru Government Primary School polling centre in Sunaru village, Baniachong.

While the fire partially damaged a door, local residents managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread.

Police and Detective Branch (DB) personnel visited the site following the report. Mahmuda Begum Sathee, the Baniachong upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and assistant returning officer, confirmed the arson attempt, noting that there was no significant damage and the situation remains under control.
