Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) Vice-Chancellor Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam remains locked inside the vice-chancellor’s building, while protesting students have organised a picnic and sit-in programme outside.
The picnic is set to begin in front of the vice-chancellor’s building at 9pm on Monday, where students plan to cook and eat khichuri together.
Earlier on Monday at around 12:30pm, students locked the inner gate of the vice-chancellor’s building. This step was taken after the vice-chancellor failed to leave the building by the 12pm deadline given by the students.
Meanwhile, on Monday evening, the protesting students sent food to the vice-chancellor and others confined inside the locked gate. The food items provided included bananas, Lexus biscuits, water, and other provisions.
The protesting students said that their blockade and movement will continue until their single-point demand is met, urging students from all batches to present themselves in front of the vice-chancellor’s building at the designated time.
The primary demand of the students is the re-appointment of former vice-chancellor Professor Dr Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem. They have been observing a ‘complete shutdown’ programme at Cuet since 22 September in protest against the appointment of current vice-chancellor.
