No president or prime minister will be spared if they commit a crime, as justice must apply equally to all citizens, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said on Thursday.
Speaking as the chief guest at an election rally at the Nawabganj Government College field in the afternoon.
Shafiqur said Jamaat-e-Islami wants to establish a judicial system where holders of the highest offices face the same legal consequences as ordinary citizens.
“We want to establish that justice in Bangladesh,” he said, adding that justice would be equal for Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and ethnic minorities, with the goal of establishing Insaf in the country.
He said a nationwide mass surge for freedom, justice and a humanitarian Bangladesh had emerged from the Teesta to the sea and from Teknaf to Tetulia, describing the public mood as a response to exhaustion after 54 years of misrule.
People are tired of misgovernance and now demand change, he said, adding that they no longer want the politics of the old arrangement.
Referring to recent unrest, he said the July warriors took to the streets because there is no justice in the country.
Shafiqur Rahman said that if Jamaat-e-Islami is entrusted with leadership, North Bengal will be developed as the capital of the agricultural industry.
He also stressed the importance of honouring mothers, saying the party’s youth are committed to protecting their dignity.
During the rally, he formally introduced Jamaat-e-Islami’s three parliamentary candidates for Chapainawabganj, handing them the Dariipalla (scales) symbol and urging voters to ensure their victory.
The candidates are Keramat Ali for Chapainawabganj-1, Mizanur Rahman for Chapainawabganj-2 and Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul for Chapainawabganj-3.
The rally was presided over by Chapainawabganj district Jamaat Ameer Maulana Ameer Abu Jar Gifari.
Among others, Islami Chhatra Shibir central president Nurul Islam Saddam and the three local candidates also spoke at the programme.
