Janata Exchange Company SRL, a subsidiary of Janata Bank PLC based in Rome and Milan, is setting up agent points across Italy to facilitate remittances.
Italy’s central bank, locally known as Banca d’Italia, recently allowed Janata Exchange to establish a total of 102 agent points across the country in phases.
The initiative was inaugurated by top officials of Janata Exchange through a video conference on 2 February, with certain representatives of Janata Bank also participating.
Nazma Mobarek, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, spoke at the event as its chief guest while ATM Rokebul Haque, ambassador of Bangladesh to Italy, was the guest of honour.
Special guests included M Fazlur Rahman, chairman of Janata Bank, and Md Al Amin, a director of Janata Exchange as well as economic counsellor of the Bangladesh Embassy in Italy.
Giovanni Imbergamo, another director of the exchange company, also addressed the event as a special guest, according to a press release from the country’s second largest state bank issued on Wednesday.
The event was hosted by Mohammad Anis, general manager of Janata Bank’s overseas banking department.
The agent outlets are being established near or within residential areas, easing remittances through legal means under a risk-free environment.
