Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Tuesday said the referendum scheduled for the 12th offers a golden opportunity to change the country by empowering people, restoring balance of power and ensuring accountability across state institutions.
“If we vote ‘yes’ in the referendum, the barriers that stand in the way of exercising our rights as citizens will be removed,” she said while briefing journalists about the referendum at Shaheed Khushi Railway Ground in Rajbari town.
She said the referendum would help lay the foundation of the spirit, dreams and aspirations for change that emerged from the July mass uprising, urging people to take part in the vote and use the opportunity positively to bring change to the country.
“I call on everyone to participate in the referendum, stand for reform and change, and vote ‘yes’ in the referendum to honour the July martyrs,” she said.
Later at around 3pm, Rizwana Hasan joined a referendum-related rally organised by the Rajbari district administration, which marched through the town’s main roads.
At around 4pm, she addressed a views-exchange meeting on the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum at Yasin High School as the chief guest.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Mahbuba Farjana and Rajbari Superintendent of Police Mohammad Manjur Morshed spoke at the event as special guests.
The meeting was presided over by Rajbari Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akter.
