Over recent days, social media users have noticed that several leading Bangladeshi celebrities, including Jaya Ahsan, Siam Ahmed and Sunerah Kamal, have removed profile pictures from Facebook pages. Normally, missing profile images suggest hacking or deactivation, yet these verified pages remain active and continue publishing posts regularly.
The unexplained change has sparked widespread curiosity, prompting discussions among fans, digital observers and entertainment industry insiders alike.
Digital media experts and industry sources have identified four possible reasons behind the sudden disappearance of these profile images. Globally, many celebrities blank social media profiles before announcing new films, albums or projects to deliberately build anticipation.
Such digital minimalism fuels curiosity among followers and often works as a subtle but effective promotional strategy. Cybersecurity concerns may also play a role, as hackers sometimes clone verified pages to extort money or attention. One unnamed artist said administrators advised temporarily removing profile pictures after detecting potential cloning or blackmail attempts.
Facebook policy updates can also trigger such changes, as verification reviews sometimes recommend altering or removing profile images. Experts say platforms occasionally flag unusual activity, prompting precautionary adjustments to avoid account restrictions or suspensions.
Mental health considerations offer another explanation, as some artists reduce online visibility to escape trolling or constant scrutiny. International stars, including Taylor Swift and The Weeknd, previously adopted similar tactics before major releases or announcements.
Observers believe the Bangladeshi trend may signal a coordinated campaign, with its purpose likely to emerge very soon.
