Bangladeshi filmmaker Golam Rabbani has received a year-long scholarship from the US-based Sundance Institute, which supports independent filmmakers worldwide. The Sundance Institute, founded by Hollywood actor Robert Redford, organises the globally renowned Sundance Film Festival every year.
The International Academy of Film and Media awarded this scholarship to three participants from the second Film Lab.
Singmau Marma received a filmmaking scholarship, while Zahirul Islam Kochi was selected for the screenwriting programme. Through the scholarship, Golam Rabbani will develop a new film project for one year at the Sundance Collaborative and work closely with international film professionals. He will receive an officially recognised certificate from the Sundance Institute upon completion of the project.
Golam Rabbani said the opportunity would enrich his filmmaking journey and credited IAFM for supporting his continued learning. His debut feature ‘Churat’ earned a Special Mention at the Dhaka International Film Festival in the Spiritual Film category.
His co-production ‘Nishi’ won the Emma Award for environmentally friendly films, marking a historic first for Bangladeshi cinema.
