Rabiul Islam has submitted his nomination papers to contest the 13th Parliamentary Election from the Dinajpur-3 (Sadar upazila) constituency under the banner of a political party named Janatar Dal.
Rabiul Islam earlier won the upazila vice-chairman post in a 2020 by-election as an Awami League backed candidate.
He is a resident of South Faridpur Cheradangi in Dinajpur sadar upazila and previously served as a member of the Awami League’s Auliapur union unit.
On the final day for filing nominations last Monday, Riaz-ul Islam, a resident of the municipal area, submitted the papers on behalf of Rabiul Islam to the Dinajpur deputy commissioner, who also serves as the district returning officer.
Attempts to contact Rabiul Islam on the mobile number listed in the nomination papers drew no response. However, Riaz-ul Islam told The Times of Bangladesh over the phone, “Rabiul is known to me. He sent me the election documents a few days ago and asked me to submit them. I submitted the papers today.”
When asked about Rabiul Islam’s whereabouts, he said, “I do not know where he is,” and declined to comment further.
