After 17 long years of exile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman landed at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. He was accompanied by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, and his daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman.
At 9:56am on Thursday, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Tarique Rahman and his family arrived at the Sylhet airport.
“Finally in Sylhet, on Bangladeshi soil!” Zaima wrote in a Facebook post.
In a Facebook post, Tarique Rahman said, “In Bangladesh’s sky after 6,314 long days.”
According to reliable sources, Tarique Rahman and his family members returned on Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ regular commercial flight BG‑202.
According to sources from Biman and BNP, the flight will make a one‑hour stopover in Sylhet. After the stopover in Sylhet, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to land at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport between 11:45am and 12noon on Thursday.
His flight departed from London’s Heathrow Airport bound for Dhaka at 6:36pm local time on Wednesday (12:36am Bangladesh time).
