The maximum treatment needed for a “critical patient” is being provided to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, according to her personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain. He said, “Khaleda Zia is under treatment in the ICU; in medical science terms, she is responding to the treatment she is receiving.” He further informed that local and foreign doctors are working to ensure her advanced treatment.
He made the remark while briefing journalists outside the gate of Evercare Hospital on Wednesday night.
Khaleda Zia was swiftly admitted to this hospital on 23 November after experiencing respiratory distress.
Her physical condition is not suitable for air ambulance travel, especially her heart problem is at a very complex stage. Additionally, her diabetes, kidney, and lung issues remain unchanged. She is being treated and requires dialysis daily.
In this situation, no new initiative from BNP or her family regarding taking her abroad is known. The process of sending an air ambulance by the Emir of Qatar has also been suspended for now.
The 80-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various physical ailments for a long time, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications. Her treatment is ongoing under the supervision of local and foreign specialist doctors under a Medical Board. Doctors are still considering her physical condition as “critical”.
However, Dr Zubaida Rahman, the wife of her son and BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, is involved in overseeing Khaleda Zia’s overall treatment. She is coming and going to the hospital almost daily.
Meanwhile, as before, the law-and-order situation is strictly controlled in front of Evercare Hospital in the capital for the security of Khaleda Zia.
There is no crowd of BNP and its affiliate leaders and workers in front of the hospital as before. Members of police, BGB, RAB, and SSF are on duty in and around the hospital.
