Foreign loan commitments for Bangladesh rose to more than $1.2 billion in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal year, rebounding from just $255 million during the turbulent July–October period of 2024, according to the latest data from the Economic Relations Division.
Foreign assistance disbursements fell sharply year on year. Development partners released $1.66 billion between July and October, down from $3.2 billion over the same period last year.
Disbursements from Europe, the World Bank and Asian partners excluding Japan and the Middle East, rose over the year. But the drastic fall in disbursements from America and Japan, which amounted to only $80 million in the four months compared with $2.33 billion a year ago, pulled the overall figures down.
The Asian Development Bank accounted for the bulk of fresh commitments, providing nearly $582 million over the four months. America and Japan, however, made no new commitments during the period.
