Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award for the best men’s goal of last season, while Brazil legend Marta is on the shortlist for the women’s award named in her honour. The nominations were announced on 14 November 2025.
Yamal’s goal came against Espanyol in May—a trademark curling left-foot strike after cutting across the defence from the right flank. Marta’s nominated effort was equally spectacular: she picked up the ball in the centre circle, dribbled past two defenders, rounded the goalkeeper, and scored into an empty net for Orlando Pride against Kansas City Current.
FIFA selected 11 nominees for each award, with votes split equally between online fan polls and a panel of former international players. The voting deadline is 3 December, though it is not yet confirmed if the awards will be presented during the men’s World Cup draw in Washington D.C., scheduled two days later.
Other men’s nominees include Arsenal’s Declan Rice for his Champions League quarter-final free kick against Real Madrid, and Lucas Ribeiro for a solo run from the centre spot to score for Mamelodi Sundowns against Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup. The women’s list also features Ally Sentnor’s swerving strike for the United States against Colombia at the SheBelieves Cup, and Vivianne Miedema’s floated finish for the Netherlands against Wales in the Women’s European Championship.
