The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed a three-member investigation committee following allegations of sexual harassment brought forward by cricketer Jahanara Alam against former women’s team selector and manager Manjurul Islam.
The decision was announced through a BCB press release on the night of 8 November. The allegations, which also point to broader misconduct within the women’s cricket setup, were raised by a former member of the national team.
Retired Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Tariq-ul-Hakim has been appointed as the convenor of the committee. The other members are BCB director Rubaba Dowla and senior Supreme Court lawyer as well as president of the Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla.
According to the board, the committee will conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged incidents of harassment and misconduct and submit its findings within 15 working days. Once the report and recommendations are received, the BCB will take further action based on the committee’s conclusions.
