Corporate executive and sports organiser Rubaba Dowla has been appointed as a new member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors, the National Sports Council (NSC) confirmed in an official letter to the BCB on Monday.
With Rubaba’s inclusion, the 25-member BCB board is now complete. The NSC nominates two councillors to serve on the country’s highest cricket governing body.
Following the board elections on 6 October, the NSC had nominated two individuals, one of whom, businessman Isfaq Ahsan, became the subject of controversy. Monday’s NSC letter stated that Isfaq Ahsan had resigned from his position.
After discussions about his political involvement with the Awami League and his candidacy in the disputed 2024 national elections, Rubaba Dowla was nominated to replace him. However, due to certain formalities at the organisations where she works, Rubaba has not yet officially assumed her new role.
Rubaba currently serves as the Country Director for Oracle in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. She previously held senior leadership roles at Grameenphone and Airtel.
She has also been active in sports administration for many years, serving as president of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and as a board member of the Special Olympics Bangladesh during the same period. While at Grameenphone, she was a familiar figure in the country’s sports scene through her involvement with the national cricket team.
A BCB board meeting was scheduled to take place today, which Rubaba may attend. The other NSC-nominated councillor is Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashik.
