Nine more people have died from measles and measles-related symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the same period, 1,192 new patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide with measles or suspected measles complications, the health authorities said on Tuesday.

Among the deceased, three were confirmed to have died from measles infection, while six others died with symptoms consistent with the disease, according to data released by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the DGHS.

The latest figures indicate a continuing rise in infections and hospital admissions amid growing concern over the spread of the contagious disease.

According to the DGHS, a total of 68 people have died from confirmed measles infections since 15 March.
In addition, 356 suspected measles-related deaths have been reported during the same period.

The health directorate said 7,024 confirmed measles cases have been recorded nationwide since 15 March, while the number of suspected infections has climbed to 51,567.

So far, 36,881 people with suspected measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country.
Of them, 32,877 patients have recovered and been discharged, the DGHS added.
