Eight workers sustained burn injuries in a boiler explosion at a steel mill in the Shyampur area of the capital on Wednesday morning.
The explosion occurred around 10am at the RS Steel Mill.
The injured individuals have been identified as Md Hira (35), Manik Mia (45), Khalilur Rahman (56), Rajab Ali (29), Matiur Rahman (22), Ershad Mia (45), Liton (32), and Yusuf (40).
According to the victims, the blast occurred while they were engaged in melting iron in the factory’s boiler. They alleged that the explosion was triggered when low-quality or defective scrap metal was added to the furnace, causing molten iron to splash onto their bodies.

Shawn Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute’s emergency department, stated that Manik Mia suffered burns to approximately 40 percent of his body, while Hira sustained 17 percent burns. The other six workers suffered burns ranging from 4 to 11 percent of their bodies.
Manik Mia has been admitted to the institute for intensive care, and Hira remains under medical observation. The remaining six workers were discharged after receiving primary treatment.
