Seven more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected measles deaths since 15 March to 584, according to a report from the Directorate General of Health Services.
The report, published on Saturday afternoon by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room, stated that no deaths were recorded from confirmed measles during the 24-hour period from Friday 8am to Saturday 8am.
During the same period, 807 children exhibited measles-like symptoms, while 80 confirmed measles cases were identified.
Since March 15, a total of 93 children have died from confirmed measles. Combined, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms has reached 677, the health directorate’s report said.
Health authorities have been working to contain the outbreak, which has affected thousands of children across the country. Officials have urged parents to ensure their children receive measles vaccinations and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.
