A 60-year-old man was killed after being struck by the Cox’s Bazar-bound Tourist Express train in Chattogram.
The accident occurred on Sunday around noon when the victim was crossing the railway tracks near the western end of the Kalurghat Bridge. Doctors at Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital declared him dead upon arrival.
The deceased, Golap Mia, was the son of Hojrat Ali from Noakhali’s Maijdee. He had been residing at the house of Dhani Alam in Ward No 5 of Kalurghat under Chandgaon Police Station.
Jan Ali Hat Railway Station Master Nezam Uddin stated that around noon, a 60-year-old man was critically injured after being hit by the Tourist Express train. Rescue workers pulled him from under the train and rushed him to CMCH, where attending physicians pronounced him dead.
Chandgaon Police Station’s Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Zahidul Kabir said, “We received reports of a man being hit by a train. The Railway Police have been informed and will handle the matter.”
Chattogram Railway Police Station’s Acting OC SM Shahidul Islam confirmed that a UD (unnatural death) case will be filed, and that family members of the deceased were already present.
