At least 50 people, including men and women, were injured in a violent clash between supporters of the Argentina and Brazil football teams at Kashipur village in Habiganj Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The clash, which lasted for nearly an hour, occurred at noon, spreading tension throughout the locality.
According to police and local sources, a friendly football match involving Argentina and Brazil supporters was held in Kashipur village on Tuesday afternoon.
Following Brazil supporters’ 2-0 defeat, an argument broke out triggered by an announcement made via the commentator’s loudspeaker. Although local seniors intervened to temporarily pacify the situation, the dispute reignited on Wednesday.

Supporters from both sides engaged in another altercation that escalated into a clash involving locally made weapons, leaving at least 50 individuals injured.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital. Due to the critical condition of several victims, they were subsequently sent to Sylhet for advanced medical treatment.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Jahidul Haque said police quickly arrived at the scene on a tip off and brought the situation under control. He further noted that a peaceful environment currently prevails in the area and the law-and-order situation is normal.
