Islami Andolan Bangladesh has announced the second phase of its programme pressing home five-point demand, including the implementation of proportional representation (PR) system and July Charter.
Speaking at a press conference held in Purana Paltan on Tuesday, the party’s Secretary General Hafiz Maulana Yunus Ahmad said, “Our program includes mass contact campaigns from 1 to 9 October.
‘‘Rallies in Dhaka and divisional cities on 10 October, and memorandums submission to deputy commissioners on 12 October.’’
The party is led by Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir.
For Durga Puja, the party would initially refrain from taking to the streets and would begin with public activities.
Islami Andolan’s Senior Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman, was also present at the briefing.
The five-point demands include – July Charter based election, PR system implementation, equal opportunities for all parties, bringing the atrocities, genocide, and corruption committed by the fascist government to light.
The party also seeks a ban on the activities of Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance, as they were accomplices of the deposed autocratic regime.
Earlier, in the first phase, Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan, Khelafat Majlish, Nezam-e-Islam Party, Khelafat Andolan, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) staged demonstrations with the same demands.
On 18 September, the parties held protests in Dhaka, followed by rallies in all divisional cities on 19 September, and processions and gatherings at district and upazila levels on 26 September.
