Bangladesh is seeking to draw more investment from Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in Hong Kong while using their international experience and business networks to expand trade and commercial links.
Commerce, Industries and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Wednesday urged Bangladeshi businesspeople based in Hong Kong to invest in the country, saying such investments could support economic activity while creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to expand their own businesses.
He made the call at a meeting at the Bangladesh Consulate General office in Hong Kong, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Consulate General and the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong.
The discussion focused on Bangladesh’s commercial prospects in Hong Kong, investment opportunities in the country and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two business communities.
Participants also stressed the need to use the experience, international connections and business networks of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to support trade and investment expansion.
Muktadir called for deeper and more diversified commercial ties between Bangladesh and Hong Kong and greater regular contact between businesses and entrepreneurs on both sides.
He also urged the Hong Kong business community to explore investment opportunities in potential sectors in Bangladesh.
Businesspeople attending the meeting proposed steps to widen markets for Bangladeshi products, increase investment cooperation and build more effective links between entrepreneurs in Bangladesh and Hong Kong.
Following the meeting, Muktadir unveiled The Bengal Visionaries, a special business directory jointly published by the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong and the Bangladesh Consulate General.
The directory profiles Bangladeshi businesspeople and entrepreneurs operating in Hong Kong and is intended to strengthen networking and direct business connections.
Organisers said it could also help showcase the capabilities and business potential of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs internationally while creating more direct links with Hong Kong businesses and investors.
The initiative is aimed at building stronger and more sustained business connections between Bangladesh and Hong Kong, with the broader goal of expanding trade, attracting investment and opening wider markets for Bangladeshi products.
